Introduction

Altar servers play a vital role in our Catholic Mass, assisting the priest and deacon in various ways. This training program will introduce you to the basics of altar serving.  Click on the links below to open the training documents (as PDF files).

• December 8, 2024 - Fr. Maurici and three Altar Servers (Ordinary Mass)
• December 15, 2024 - Fr. Mitch, Deacon Pat and three Altar Servers (Ordinary Mass with Baptism Mass and Children's Liturgy of the Word)
• December 29, 2024 - Fr. Maurici, Deacon Pat and three Altar Servers (Ordinary Mass)
• January 5, 2025 - Fr. Mitch and two Altar Servers (High Mass with Incense)

Goals

By the end of this training, you will be able to:

• Understand the significance of altar serving
• Confidently perform your duties during Mass
• Serve with reverence and respect for the sacred liturgy

Structure

This training will consist of:

• Videos of Masses: both Ordinary Time and Holidays with Incense
• Instruction Sheets:  documents of Order of Masses and Altar Server movements during each part of the Mass
• Hands-on Practice:  Serving Mass with experienced Servers with minimum or no Supervision

Expectations

As an altar server, you are expected to:

• Comprehend the parts and order of the Mass 
• Comprehend  what to do during each part of the Mass without guidance
• Comprehend the difference between serving Mass for Fr. Mitch, Fr. Maurici or the Deacon
• Be punctual and receive assignments from the Sacristan or Liturgy Coordinator
• Behave reverently and respectfully to your surroundings and the Tabernacle
